The Reel
The new weapon in the Okuma arsenal is the Okuma Andros 5
II Speed Lever Drag Reel. Don’t judge this reel by its
size, this reel shares technology developed with the Makaira
project and will produce 11kg of drag. The Okuma Andros 5
II Speed Lever Drag Reel makes Andros technology more
accessible to anglers, and with the addition of a roller bearing
for instant anti-reverse; the reel becomes a pure jigging
performer.

Silent anti-reverse system
The proprietary anti-reverse system on the Andros lever drag reel
allows for a smoother and quieter feeling. As you turn the reel
forward the anti-reverse pawls slide open allowing a friction-free
and quiet retrieve. As soon as the handle is stopped or pulled
backwards, the anti-reverse pawls are engaged into place by their
drive shaft actuated sliding system.

Helical cut gearing
Andros lever drag reels utilize helical cut main and pinion gears.
This process allows for improved gear meshing which equates to
improved gear smoothness. The angled teeth found in helical cut
gears engage more gradually than straight cut or spur gear teeth.
This allows helical gears to run smoother and quieter compared to
spur gears.

The Rod
The Okuma Tournament Concept Rod is built using
Okuma’s patented Unidirectional Fibre Reinforcement technology.
Exclusively designed for Kiwi anglers by the team at Composite
Developments – each one built strong enough to fight tough fish and
last you many seasons!

It’s manufactured using a patented process with an outer layer of
longitudinal fibres around the rod blank to significantly increase
strength and power in the tip section. This offers lifting power
and strength up to four times conventional graphite rods. The
